Because fools rush in where angels fear to tread, I made a video discussing the recent controversy surrounding the revelation that Lara Croft would suffer a near-rape in the next Tomb Raider game.
Good podcast, or whatever it was.
One thing; both gaming industry and gaming community are misogynist. Essentially, just like you said. There is no need to feel bad about people making this point. Just don’t identify with either the gaming community or the industry – even if you are a gamer and a game dev.
I’ll give you an example from a somewhat related field – IT/software dev. I spent quite a few years in the industry, enough to say with my utmost conviction that it is a sexist industry, by and large. What’s more, it is still a field largely populated by idiots. There are many-many-many friendly, open minded and non-sexist guys out there are and many-many extremely bright people in IT, but it the overall picture is a different story.
Yeah, completely agree. These days, I often feel a little bit uncomfortable calling myself a gamer, just because of the troglodyte associations.
